Sustainability Policies
Explore, discover, love and conserve. How we run our Coiba tours so the park stays wild. Last updated: November 2026.
Coiba stayed wild because, for almost a century, very few people could go there. We want to keep it that way, so every tour is private, small and run with people who live on this coast.
Our Commitments
- Keep the impact of every trip as low as possible.
- Share the benefits of tourism fairly with the local community.
- Care for the natural and cultural heritage of Veraguas.
- Respect cultural differences and local traditions.
- Comply with all applicable Panamanian law.
On the Water
- Small groups: up to 6 guests per boat, so we put less pressure on reefs and beaches.
- Wildlife first: we slow down near whales and dolphins and follow Panama’s watching rules. No touching, chasing or feeding animals.
- Hands off the reef: we brief every guest before snorkeling and ask for reef-safe sunscreen.
- Nothing leaves the park: no shells, coral, plants or animals, and no hunting or illegal fishing.
- Fees that protect: park fees are paid to MiAmbiente and support the Coiba Fund. Granito de Oro is closed for conservation, and we respect every closure.
In Our Operation
- We sort our waste from tours and the office. Aluminum cans go to a neighbor who recycles them and earns an income.
- We save energy and water, including rainwater harvesting at our El Bongo base.
- We clean with eco-friendly products and do not use chlorine.
- Our boats and vehicles keep their technical inspections and insurance up to date.
- Our team is trained on sustainability and on the management plans of the protected areas we visit.
With the Community
- Most of our team lives in the community around our base, and every salary is well above Panama’s legal minimum.
- At least half of our suppliers are local, and we prefer those with sustainable practices.
- We work with local partners and the Veraguas Chamber of Tourism, and we promote products made in Panama.
- We share local culture with care: history, music, food and traditional knowledge.
Code of Ethics
- We reject all child labor and all sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, and we report any case to the authorities.
- We do not promote places where minors are exposed to sexual exploitation, and we ask guests, suppliers and partners to report what they see.
- We reject discrimination based on race or gender.
- We market our tours honestly, without misleading advertising.
Travel Responsibly
- People: human trafficking is a crime. If something feels wrong in a bar, hotel or restaurant, report it.
- Wildlife: do not buy products made from protected animals, plants or rare woods.
- Heritage: buy crafts with a clear, legal origin, never antiques or archaeological pieces.
- Drugs: never carry packages for anyone else.
- Fakes: counterfeit goods often fund organized crime. Buy from real local makers.
