Coiba 2-Day Tour: Two Private Days in the Park, $1,700 per Boat

Why Two Days
A day trip shows you Coiba. Two days let you slow down. With the night close to the park, there is no long ride back to the mainland in the afternoon, so the boat can go further: the outer islands the day trips rarely reach, a second morning on the reef when the water is calmest, and time for a longer walk. It also doubles your chances of meeting what you came for, from hawksbill turtles to dolphins and, from July to October, humpback whales.
Can You Sleep on Coiba? Where to Stay
Coiba has no hotels or lodges for visitors, and that is part of why it is still so wild. The good news is that two very different places sit right next to the park. We check availability for your dates and book the boat around your choice.

Bahia Honda
A simple, comfortable hostel on a sheltered bay facing Coiba, with air-conditioned rooms (no hot water) and dinner on a deck over the water. Not a luxury hotel, but waking up there is the luxury.

Isla Simca
A private island about 25 minutes from Coiba. You sleep at The Lab, its research station, with air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, jungle trails and kayaks. More comfort and privacy, at a higher price.
A Sample Plan for Two Days
- Day 1 · Early startLeave at 6:30 am from El Bongo (about 2 h 15 min by boat) or 7:30 am from Santa Catalina (about 1 h 15 min). Dolphins often ride along on the way.
- Day 1 · Reefs and islandsSnorkel and island hopping through the park, with a stop at the ranger station and its short trails, Mirador Cocos and Cerro Gambute, about 45 minutes each way.
- Day 1 · AfternoonNo rush to head home: a last swim, then the boat drops you at Bahia Honda or Isla Simca for sunset and dinner.
- Day 2 · Calm morningBack on the water early, when the sea is flat and the visibility is at its best. This is the day for the far islands and the reefs the day boats skip.
- Day 2 · Your choiceMore snorkeling, more empty beaches, or, for strong walkers, the Santa Cruz trail, about 3 hours each way. Back at the dock in the afternoon.

Golden Hour in the Park
Day trippers leave before the light turns gold. With two days, you are still nearby when it does.

More Empty Beaches
A second day means more time on the sand and fewer hours on the road.
